Developing Intelligent Fatigue Risk Management System for Safety-critical Industries
Bridge data-driven fatigue assessment with actionable decision support
Graphical Abstract
Intelligent Fatigue Risk Management System for Safety-critical Industries
Offshore oil and gas extraction workers are prone to significant occupational fatigue owing to physically and cognitively demanding work in extreme temperatures over extended periods of time. The goal of this study is to bridge data-driven fatigue assessment with actionable decision support for both workers and supervisors in high-risk industries such as emergency medical services and energy operations.
Develops an intelligent fatigue risk management system (FRMS) that integrates multimodal data sources—including wearable physiological signals (e.g., heart rate, HRV), sleep data, behavioral performance (PVT), and subjective fatigue reports—to enable continuous fatigue assessment in real-world operational environments.
Incorporates a personalized intervention recommendation module, with fatigue mitigation strategies informed by industry guidelines from the American Petroleum Institute and the Center for Offshore Safety, supporting both workers and supervisors in decision-making.
Features a human-centered interface that enables real-time fatigue monitoring, delivers personalized intervention recommendations, and supports retrospective reporting of fatigue trends and safety culture indicators.
